Safeguard Self Storage, which operates facilities throughout the eastern states, has opened a new facility in the East Tremont neighborhood of Bronx, N.Y. The property at 1112 E. Tremont Ave. is six miles south of two other Safeguard sites. It comprises 50,750 rentable square feet of storage space in 905 climate-controlled units. Property amenities include a drive-in loading area, computer-controlled building access, individual door alarms and video cameras.
“Safeguard Self Storage has been in the New York market since opening its first self-storage facility in New Hyde Park over 15 years ago in 2001 on New Hyde Park Road. These 25 facilities—in the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn in New York City and in Westchester and Nassau Counties just outside the city—provide great name and brand recognition, and a critical mass for the company,” said Ken Finlay, executive vice president of operations.
Safeguard opened a new facility in the Hermosa neighborhood of Chicago last month. The company has three more properties under development in New York and five in Florida, according to Jim Goonan, executive vice president of development.
Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Atlanta, Safeguard operates facilities in Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The company is owned and operated by Morgan Stanley’s Prime Property Fund.
