Self-storage owner Liam Shirley received planning-board approval this week amending a 2004 special permit that will allow his storage facility in Lanesborough, Mass., to operate on less land. The decision is tied to a proposed development for a Dollar General retail store that real estate investment company Primax Properties LLC wants to build on an adjacent parcel.
The dollar store would be built on a site that currently houses a former Party Barn store but is not big enough for the proposed new construction. The planning boards decision on Monday will enable Shirley to continue to operate the self-storage facility and sell a portion of the lot in front of the property to Primax. He will also sell a small portion of the land behind the storage units to the developer, according to the source.
The decision satisfies space concerns city officials had regarding the proposed dollar store as well as how the project would address the acreage and frontage areas of the adjacent properties.
