Mountain Shadows Storage Opens in Greeley, CO

Four business partners have opened a new self-storage facility in Greeley, Colo. Mountain Shadows Storage at 8320 W. 20th St. is owned by Dale Boehner, Nick Francis, Rob Stanley and Terry Wiedeman, who are all first-time storage owners. A grand-opening celebration is slated for September, according to the source.

The 5-acre facility is still partially under development after weather hampered the construction of a retaining wall and concrete paving. The property contains more than 480 climate-controlled and drive-up units as well as vehicle-parking spaces. It also includes an RV-dump station, controlled access, motion-sensor lighting, video cameras, and a retail store that sells moving and packing supplies. Customers have access to online reservations and billpay. A kiosk will be installed next year, the source reported.

The partners, who’ve been involved in several business ventures together and separately, were intrigued by the idea of owning a storage facility. "We've owned apartments, [but] there's upkeep,” Francis said. “With storage, we don't have plumbing, no electrical, so it's a different venture. You don't have the constant upkeep every time someone moves out. You can take a broom and sweep."

Since opening the facility, the group has purchased land off 71st Avenue north of 10th Street in Greeley to build a second storage location. Development will begin when the area shows a demand for more units. "We don't want to be in competition with ourselves," Stanley said. "When everything is stabilized and doing well here, then we can add another storage facility … and away we go."
