Paul Rumul has been promoted to president of The Davenport Cos., the parent company to more than a dozen New England-based businesses including All Cape Self Storage in Dennis, Mass. Rumul will be Davenport’s first non-family member to hold the president position in the company’s 58-year history.
Outgoing president DeWitt Davenport, the son of founding president Palmer Davenport, will continue as CEO. Rumul’s appointment was in recognition of his “contribution and leadership,” DeWitt Davenport told the source.
"Paul has been the chief operating officer for the last five years, and in that course of time, he has taken over day-to-day operations; and I have been spending more time on the growth, opportunity and expansion into new ventures on Cape Cod, regionally and nationally," DeWitt said. "It was apparent that Paul's leadership was ongoing and he was making a real difference for the company."
A fourth-generation family-owned business, Davenport has 1,300 employees throughout New England in several sectors including resort hotels, commercial and residential real estate, assisted living, construction, investments, and a variety of service businesses.
"We are thinking a lot about maintaining the basics,” Rumul told the source. “We started off as a real estate and building company, and there has been a lot of expansion in that arena, and we will take what we have learned over time and continue in that direction. One of my favorite sayings is, ‘You can't direct the wind, but you can adjust the sails,’ so with that in mind, we will be flexible during cycles of the economy and be ready to pounce when opportunities present themselves."
All Cape Self Storage targets commercial and residential customers in the Cape Cod, Mass., area and offers a full line of moving and packing supplies as well as U-Haul truck rental.
