UK Self-Storage Operator Big Yellow Sponsors Go Dad Run Events Benefitting Cancer Research

Update 4/1/16 – Big Yellow Self Storage will be a financial sponsor of the Go Dad Run charity events for the third consecutive year. This year’s series of five- and 10-kilometer runs for men and boys will take place in Bristol, London, Sunderland and Worcester, England, as well as Cardiff, Wales, and on the Isle of Man. The events will take place during three successive weekends between June 11 and June 26.

The races will benefit Prostate Cancer UK and are open to any male. Entry costs vary depending on age and the length of run, according to the Big Yellow website.

Runners will receive a Go Dad Run T-shirt and Y-front underwear before the race, and a “Little Yellow Storage” bag and medal once they cross the finish line. All runners 10 and older will also receive a timing chip to accurately record their race times. As part of the event’s tradition, entrants are encouraged to wear the underwear during the race.

5/26/14 – U.K. self-storage operator Big Yellow Group PLC is a financial supporter for Go Dad Run, a series of 5K running events benefiting Prostate Cancer UK, an organization dedicated to funding research and raising awareness. The event will kickoff in Cardiff, Wales, on June 14, with two additional races on Father’s Day, June 15, in Birmingham, England, and London.

Go Dad Run was founded by Welshman Colin Jackson, a former sprinter and hurdler, who lost two uncles to prostate cancer. Jackson and Olympic sprinter Jamie Baulch will take part in the Cardiff event. Former swimming world champion Mark Foster will participate in London.

Baulch recently visited Big Yellow’s Cardiff self-storage facility and posed for photos with company officials wearing the event’s signature yellow underwear. The visit was part of a Go Dad Run bus tour promoting the event. Each entrant receives a pair of the underwear and is encouraged to wear them on race day.

The Go Dad Run races are open to males at least 14 years old. Organizers said they plan to donate at least £2 per entrant to Prostate Cancer UK.

Big Yellow Group operates 77 self-storage locations in the United Kingdom under the Big Yellow Self Storage and Armadillo Self Storage brand names, with most concentrated in Greater London. The portfolio comprises 4.6 million square feet.
