Update 10/4/23 – SmartStop Self Storage is continuing its partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The company will donate $5 for every new unit rented during October. Since 2018, SmartStop has raised more than $145,000 in donations from Canada and the United States, according to a press release.
BCRF is the largest private funder of breast-cancer research worldwide. In 2022-23, it committed $52.7 million to fuel research and its grants supported 255 scientists in 14 countries, the release stated.

10/14/20 –SmartStop Self Storage REIT Inc., which operates 146 properties in 19 U.S. states and Toronto, is supporting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The company will donate $5 for every new rental made in October at all its locations, according to a press release.

Michael Schwartz, executive chairman of SmartStop. “We are again committing to mobilize SmartStop's diverse employee and customer base to fund critical breast cancer research in the U.S. and Canada.”
“Throughout the month, staff at SmartStop facilities across the United States and Canada will wear special uniforms to celebrate BCRF and raise awareness with customers about this important cause,” Schwartz added. “In addition, SmartStop employees have received information highlighting BCRF's mission and notable accomplishments in the field of breast cancer research.”
SmartStop raised nearly $20,000 last year for BCRF, which supports 275 scientists across 15 countries. It’s the largest private funder of breast cancer research in the world, the release stated.
Founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder, BCRF provides critical funding for cancer research worldwide. To date, it has raised more than half a billion dollars for research.
SmartStop is a self-managed real estate investment trust. Through its indirect subsidiary SmartStop REIT Advisors LLC, it sponsors other self-storage programs, including Strategic Storage Trust IV Inc., a public non-traded real estate investment trust.
