Self Storage Plus Enrolls 62 Locations in Charity Storage Program

Self Storage Plus, a third-party management firm that operates more than 60 facilities across four states and Washington, D.C., has enrolled 62 of its managed locations in a giving program facilitated by Charity Storage, a nonprofit that serves the self-storage industry. As a result, the company will raise donations for multiple philanthropic endeavors, according to a press release.

Now in its 12th year, Charity Storage uses self-storage auctions to raise money for altruistic causes. Participating facilities collect donated goods from customers and community members and sell them during lien sales. They donate the proceeds to local nonprofits.

Self Storage Plus has allocated 60% of its charity-auction proceeds to benefit the Children’s National Hospital Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing medical developments, cures and treatments for kids. Another 20% of its donations will be directed to Kure It Cancer Research and 10% to the Self Storage Association Foundation Scholarship Program, the release stated.

“Supporting our local communities has always been important to us. We joined Charity Storage because we see the potential to amplify our impact and support many meaningful causes at once,” said Danielle Ruffino, store operations support manager for Self Storage Plus. “Whether it’s providing affordable self-storage solutions, sponsoring local events or volunteering, we try to find ways to serve in some capacity. We’re in the business of helping people, and we’re committed to doing so every opportunity we get. That’s just who we are.”

“The team at Self Storage Plus are professional problem-solvers. They love their jobs; they exemplify unrelenting excellence, and deliver sincere service,” said Mario Macaluso, program manager for Charity Storage. “They go the extra mile, standing by their ‘plus’ promise and giving back to the communities in which they serve. We are grateful to have Self Storage Plus join the Charity Storage family.”

In 2021, Charity Storage raised $111,671 for community organizations. Collected via approximately 500 charity auctions nationwide, the funds benefited cancer research as well as programs working to end domestic abuse and homelessness, as well as other initiatives. Headquartered in Phoenix, it’s an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Based in Washington, D.C., Self Storage Plus operates facilities in Florida, Maryland, the Virginias and the District of Columbia.
