1-800-Self-Storage.com Collects Donations, Provides Medical Supplies for Citizens of Ukraine

1-800-Self-Storage.com, which operates 17 facilities in Michigan, has launched a collection drive for household items and medical supplies to aid Ukrainian victims of the Russian invasion. The company has also donated medical equipment, including a dental chair, stretchers, surgical tables, tactical First-Aid kits and other necessities, to help outfit a field surgical hospital, according to a press release.

“Members of the metro-Detroit community have seen the suffering in the Ukraine and want to contribute and make a difference,” said Eugene Sherizen, principal. “We are fortunate to have the space to store donations, vehicles to help transport humanitarian supplies, and connections to make sure the needed items get to where they will be most impactful. With more than a dozen drop-off points available through use of our facilities, drop-off is convenient. Together we can make a life-changing difference for those in the war zone and refugees relocated across Europe.”

More than 10 million people have fled their homes in Ukraine since the Russian invasion began on Feb. 24. In all, 4 million are estimated to have left for neighboring countries, while 6.5 million are displaced within the nation itself, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

1-800-Self-Storage.com partnered with relief organizations Razom for Ukraine, Share Ukraine and the Ukraninian-American Crisis Response Committee to identify needed items and arrange delivery of donated goods to the region. Urgent medical supplies will be flown to Ukraine, while other items will be sent via boat in shipping containers, the release stated.

The company is requesting new or unopened household goods like batteries, flashlights, hairbrushes and combs, travel-size shampoo and soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, feminine-hygiene products, and towels. The list also includes camping gear such as air mattresses, emergency blankets, headlamps, power banks, sleeping bags, disposable utensils, water canisters, and water-purification filters and tablets. Also requested are over-the-counter medicines for children and adults, and baby-related items like bottles, diapers and wipes, rash cream, food and formula, and pacifiers.

Details regarding drop-off locations and hours can be found at the company website. This philanthropic program is one of several hosted by 1-800-Self-Storage.com. Other initiatives include the Heart for the Community outreach program. The company also serves as a year-round drop-off location for organizations that repair and distribute used bikes for needy children.
