Lock Stock Self-Storage, which operates 22 container-based self-storage facilities in Wales, is supporting The Urdd and Wrexham Litter Pickers (WLP) by offering free storage units at three of its facilities. Each organization will use the space to store equipment and supplies, according to sources.

The Urdd will have access to a unit at the company’s Bangor facility, while WLP will use one in Denbigh. Both will also enjoy space at the Lock Stock facility on Ruabon Road in Wrexham.

The Urdd operates 100 clubs in North Wales, providing arts, sports, apprenticeships and outdoor excursions to 20,000 youth ages eight to 25. “We cater to thousands of young people across Wales, and so we need a lot of equipment and supplies; so, it makes sense for us to store these items,” said Simon Thomas, community officer for The Urdd’s Eryri region. “The units are easy to access, and while some things may not be needed often, when we do need them, we need to be able to get our hands on them straight away.”

“The Urdd is a great organization, and I remember going to their outdoor center at Glan Llyn, near Bala, when I was in school and having a brilliant time,” said Lee Hanson, an area-site manager for Lock Stock.

WLP is a part of the national group Keep Wales Tidy, which works to protect the environment through clean-up and conservation. It’ll use the space to store the litter-pickers, high-visibility vests and trash bags it provides to its volunteers.

“Keep Wales Tidy [does] a fantastic job in picking up litter and in raising awareness of the problems of littering,” said Richard Warner, regional manager for Lock Stock facilities in North East and Mid Wales. “We’re always happy to support local organizations.”

Founded in 1999 by brothers Nick and Shon Powell, Lock Stock offers 4,500 self-storage containers across its 29 properties. The family-operated business also offers moving services through its “Take Stock” van fleet.
