The Tennessee Self Storage Association (TNSSA) has named Donna Porter, manager of Storage Solutions in Columbia, Tenn., as its 2014 “Manager of the Year.” The facility at 6201 Cayce was recently acquired by Lydia, Mary Ellen, Maureen and Maurice Brown.
Porter has raised the property’s physical occupancy by 5 percent and economic occupancy by 12 percent, which has increased the property’s revenue by more than 13 percent, according to a TNSSA press release. In addition to initiating several projects to improve the facility’s curb appeal, Porter decreased the property’s electric bill by 45 percent with her energy-efficiency project in the climate-controlled buildings, the release stated.
“She is helping shape and form the business to what I would like it to be. She grasps the big picture,” said a Brown-family spokesperson. “I don’t know how to describe such an extraordinary person. There are so many little things she does because she shares the same goals and morals as myself and the other owners. We are very fortunate to have her in our lives. My hope is that I can help provide her with opportunities that bring her as much joy and happiness as she has provided myself and the other owners. I don’t know how else to show her how highly we think of her as she does not ask for praise, but is so worthy of it.”
The TNSSA also named Kelly Zimmerman, manager of Storage Plex of Kingsport, Tenn., as its Manager of the Year runner-up. Zimmerman was described as having a “go-getter” personality with an incredible work ethic, according to the release. She was recognized by her industry peers for “Outstanding Management and Customer Service” in 2014.
The TNSSA provides self-storage owners and managers in Tennessee resources and information on industry-related topics such as business issues, lien laws, property taxes and more. The association also assists in promoting legislative proposals that affect the storage industry.
