Self-Storage REIT Public Storage Earns Great Place to Work Certification

Public Storage Inc., a self-storage real estate investment trust (REIT) and third-party management firm, has received 2022 certification by Great Place to Work (GPW), an organization that monitors workplace culture across the globe. The designation is based on employee feedback. Of those surveyed, 72% rated Public Storage as a “great place to work,” compared to 57% at a “typical” U.S.-based company, according to the company profile on the GPW website.

“At Public Storage, we strive to build a people-centered culture where everyone feels valued, included, and successful,” CEO Joe Russell said in a press release. “This recognition is a testament to our industry-leading team who embody our core values by going above and beyond every day, not only for our customers, but for each other.”

“Great Place to Work certification isn’t something that comes easily. It takes ongoing dedication to the employee experience,” said Sarah Lewis-Kulin, vice president of global recognition at GPW. “It’s the only official recognition determined by employees’ real-time reports of their company culture. Earning this designation means that Public Storage is one of the best companies to work for in the country.”

Based in Glendale, California, Public Storage has interests in 2,797 self-storage facilities in 39 states, with approximately 199 million net rentable square feet. It holds a 35 percent interest in Shurgard Self Storage SA, which has 256 facilities in seven European countries, with approximately 13 million net rentable square feet.

GPW has surveyed more than 100 million employees since 1992. The organization helps companies quantify their culture to produce better business results and create a trusting work experience for employees, according to its website. It uses its data to certify companies in the United States and more than 60 countries around the world.
