Tom de Jong of Colliers Receives ‘2023 Top Transaction Award’ From Society of Industrial and Office Realtors

Thomas (Tom) de Jong, executive vice president of investing for the National Self Storage Team of Colliers International, received a “2023 Top Transaction Award” from the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR), which represents brokers of industrial and office real estate. He won in the “Largest Alternative Space” category, according to a press release.

The award is given every spring to SIOR members who complete the largest transactions with one or more society associates. The awards rank deals by dollar volume. de Jong and David Williams, senior value director for Colliers, collaborated on the sale of Abbey’s Mini Storage, a 97,600-square-foot facility in Bakersfield, California. The asset sold for $9.1 million in January.

A commercial real estate broker with Colliers since 2007, de Jong became an SIOR member in 2018. He specializes in self-storage site selection, development and disposition throughout the United States. He’s also a founding member of the de Jong ‖ Becher Self Storage Team.

“Earning recognition in SIOR's 2023 Top Transaction Awards for the largest alternative space deal is a proud moment,” de Jong said. “The SIOR designation signifies expertise and excellence, paving the way for continued success in our industry.”

In addition to being an organization, SIOR is a professional designation. Real estate brokers who earn it adhere to the highest levels of accountability and ethical standards, the release stated. There are currently 3,900 designees in more than 50 countries.

Colliers specializes in the acquisition, disposition and financing of self-storage facilities nationwide. It operates in 68 countries and employs more than 19,000 people.
