July 24, 2024
John Gilliland, CEO of self-storage firm The Investment Real Estate Group of Companies (IREGC), has been recognized with the “2024 Distinguished Alumni Award” from Tyrone Area High School in Tyrone, Pennsylvania. It acknowledges graduates who’ve significantly impacted society and brought honor to their alma mater through their professional achievements and philanthropic efforts, according to a press release.
Gilliland's career in the self-storage industry began in 1997 with the brokerage of his first facility in Hanover, Pennsylvania. He founded IREGC in 1998 and has since propelled its growth to more than 100 employees across several companies specializing in acquisitions, construction, development, insurance and property management.
In March, Gilliland received the “2024 Lifetime Achievement Award” from Vistage, a global CEO coaching and peer-advisory organization. He was inducted into the inaugural class of the Pennsylvania Self Storage Hall of Fame in 2018 and the national Self Storage Association Hall of Fame in 2020.
Throughout his career, Gilliland has made philanthropic contributions supporting the greater York, Pennsylvania, community through the Gilliland Family Foundation. He also supports his wife’s charitable organization, Pink Power, which raises money for local breast-cancer patients.
“I am incredibly honored to receive this recognition from Tyrone Area High School,” Gilliland said. “This Distinguished Alumni Award is a testament to the collective efforts and shared vision of everyone who has been part of this journey since my early days. Together, we have built long-term relationships and remain dedicated to expanding our self-storage portfolio and supporting our community and beyond.”
IREGC develops, builds, acquires and operates self-storage. It owns more than 80 facilities across New England and the mid-Atlantic.
