Vote on Zoning Change for Self-Storage Development in Illinois Postponed

A vote to consider a zoning change in Pekin, Ill., to allow self-storage development was postponed Monday by the city council after local business leaders raised questions.

The zoning change is in reference to the 11 remaining acres of Riverway Business Park, which already includes a variety of businesses. The L shaped acreage being considered for self-storage development is bordered by Riverway Drive, Koch Street, South Second Street and a business called Elecsys.

While no self-storage development plans have been submitted to the citys zoning department, some companies have expressed interest. A few business owners expressed whether there was a need for self-storage in the area.
