Self-storage lien-law bills under consideration in Maryland and New Mexico have drawn the ire of local newspaper associations, which are fighting to preserve the requirement that self-storage operators must issue public auction notices through the local press. In both these cases, the measurements would enable storage operators to place public notifications of lien sales in media other than a local newspaper.
