Through facility websites, self-storage directories and organic searches, facility operators can reach potential tenants far beyond the previously set three-mile market. Self-storage owners and managers are implementing pay-per-click and online Yellow Pages advertising, and embracing social-media outlets such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn. They are also exploring search-engine optimization (SEO), search-engine marketing (SEM), local search, and third-party referral sites to reach new customers via the Web.
