A temporary embargo has been enacted on video from a self-storage surveillance camera of a teen burglary suspect allegedly being beaten March 24 by Houston police officers.

The Houston Chronicle and KPRC-TV requested the release of the tape, arguing its airing would not violate the officers right to a fair trial. Chad Holley, who was 15 at the time of the incident, has filed federal civil suits against two of the seven police officers involved.

The surveillance video was taken at an Uncle Bobs Self Storage facility in Houston and shows several police officers using excessive force against Holley and his subsequent arrest. Storage employees gave the video to the district attorneys office and an investigation was launched. Four officers were fired and indicted by a grand jury in June.

Holleys civil attorney, Benjamin Hall, obtained the video last week after subpoenaing Sovran Self Storage, which owns Uncle Bob's Self Storage. District Attorney Pat Lykos and defense attorneys for four of the officers involved have asked for a protective order to keep Hall from releasing the video. A hearing will be held and both sides will have the opportunity to present their cases.
