For self-storage customers who dread the thought of neatly fitting items into their rented units, Extra Space Storage Inc. has released an infographic encouraging them to imagine their goods as Tetris game pieces, thereby better fitting them in tight spaces. The self-storage real estate investment trust says the technique will work for packing storage units, moving trucks, closets and other home-storage spaces.
Tetris is a popular video game in which players must rotate and place together various shapes as they continuously descend down the screen.
In its informative graphic, Extra Space describes most items as resembling one of four shapes from the game. Tables are T-shaped pieces, while chairs are L-shaped. Items such as ottomans, boxes and bins are square-shaped, while bookshelves and refrigerators are long rectangles.
The graphic also shows how these shapes can fit together like a puzzle, as if the packer was playing the video game.

Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Extra Space owns or operates more than 900 self-storage properties throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The companys properties comprise approximately 610,000 units and about 66.5 million square feet of rentable space.
