A special magistrate for the Wildwood, Fla., Planning and Zoning Board granted an exception on Tuesday for a proposed self-storage project. Planned for the north side of State Road 44, the facility would include one three-story building and four single-story structures, with a total floor area of 121,350, according to the source. The property owner is Potter’s House International Ministries.

The special exception granted by magistrate Archie O. Lowry Jr. and the board still must be approved by the city commission. It would allow the owner to demolish existing church buildings and a home before building the storage structures.

Lowry also approved the project’s site plan. The footprint for the three-story building would be 31,350 square feet, while the single-story structures would be 17,235, 8,100, 6,000 and 2,375 square feet, respectively, the source reported.

David Springstead of Springstead Engineering Inc. represented the property owner at the meeting and told the board most of the units will be climate-controlled. A landscape buffer will be added to the parcel to screen the buildings from the road, he said.

No date was reported on when the city commission is expected to review the zoning request.
