Self-storage owner Bryce Gillam intends to build a second facility in Washingtonville, Ohio. Gillam presented his plans to the village council on Monday, explaining he recently purchased property at 485 Main St. with the desire to develop “12 small and four large storage units,” according to the source. Though the village doesn’t have zoning, Gillam asked for a setback variance and council review to ensure the facility wouldn’t infringe on neighboring alleys and properties.

The project would require leveling an abandoned home and clearing the lot. The property is 10,890 square feet, according to real estate website Zillow.

Councilmember Al Vignon indicated the facility would need to set back 10 feet from the road, while councilmembers Brenda Briden and Peggy Frank debated whether it’s appropriate for the building to sit 18 inches into a neighboring alley. Village solicitor Jeffrey Heintz indicated it could be a problem if it blocks alley access.

Councilmember Becky Vignon said she was in favor of removing the abandoned dwelling, and mayor Herman Frank praised Gillam for bringing his plan before the council.

Gillam also owns Boston Storage at 814 Boston St. in Washingtonville. The site has perimeter fencing, keypad entry and security cameras. Gillam told the council he’s put effort into keeping the property secure and presentable, the source reported.
