Sun Self Storage of Alabama Sponsors Puppypalooza Fundraiser

Sun Self Storage, which operates five facilities in Alabama, was a sponsor for the Oct. 15 “Pupplypalooza” event at Kiesel Park in Auburn, Ala. Designed to raise funds for the Lee County Humane Society (LCHS), the festival included dog demonstrations, a children’s area, pet adoptions, a pet-costume contest, a photo booth and raffles, according to the source.

Formerly known as Woofstock, this year’s event offered a more laid-back atmosphere, according to Ausu Anaraki, fundraising and events manager for LCHS. “We just want to focus on people coming out and having fun,” she said.

The day included K9 demonstrations, a question-and-answer session with a certified dog-obedience trainer, and a blessing of the animals from Father John Wells from St. Dunstan’s The Episcopal Church at Auburn University.

First place for the pet-costume contest and a $100 gift card from Pyro’s Fire Fresh Pizza was awarded to the owner of a dog dressed as a witch. A pooch in a martini costume won second place, and a dog dressed as reality-TV celebrity Kim Kardashian placed third. Two cats dressed in costume also received an honorable mention.

In addition to door prizes, a 55-inch LG Smart TV, Yeti Hopper cooler and a football signed by Auburn Football Head Coach Gus Malzahn were raffled. Tickets were $5 each or five for $20.

LCHS also sold Puppypalooza and humane society calendars, collars, leashes and t-shirts. Handmade jewelry by Circles of Colors was also available. Proceeds from the sales and raffles benefited LCHS, the source reported.

The children’s activities included a tie-dye station, inflatables and yard games. Actors dressed as characters such as Disney’s Princess Belle and Snoopy were available for photos. The food vendors were Smooth N Groove, Steel City Pops, The Caffeine Machine and Zoe’s Kitchen, and music was provided by Joey Young.

Founded more than 30 years ago, Sun Self Storage has one property in Auburn and four in Opelika, Ala. Some facilities offer records and vehicle storage.
