IPMI 6 LLC, a subsidiary of Indian Pueblos Marketing Inc., plans to build a self-storage facility on 6 acres of vacant land it owns in Albuquerque, N.M. The property at 1901 8th St. N.W. is between 8th and 12th Streets and faces Interstate 40, according to the source.
Phase one, slated to open by the end of the year, will include a 36,450-square-foot building containing 497 units, some of which will be climate-controlled. The facility will also have 93 vehicle-storage spaces. Phase two will add 16,650 square feet of storage space and 230 units.
Designed by Rick Bennett of RBA Architecture P.C., the facility will be managed by Extra Space Storage Inc., a self-storage real estate investment trust and third-party management company.
“We’re very excited to continue the development of the Albuquerque Indian School property,” said Mike Canfield, CEO and president of IPMI 6. “This new storage center will be a perfect fit for the surrounding near North Valley, Sawmill and Wells Park communities, providing storage options for residents and businesses alike.”
There are several storage developments underway in the city as demand continues to grow, the source reported.
Indian Pueblos Marketing is the for-profit arm jointly owned and operated by 19 pueblos in New Mexico. It owns and is developing 80 acres of land around the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, including the largest Starbucks in the state, according to the source.
