Safestore Self Storage Supports Guinness World Record Winner for Most Monopoly Boards Owned

A Safestore Self Storage facility in Borehamwood, England, recently served as the venue for an unusual world record. Neil Scallan, a gateway service manager at Heathrow Airport, piled 23 pallets filled with Monopoly game boards into a large unit at the storage facility and began documenting them on July 24. His collection of 1,677 unique boards was recently certified as a Guinness World Record, according to a press release.

Scallan easily broke the previous record of 500 Monopoly game boards. With duplicates, he actually owns more than 3,000. Prior to taking inventory for the purpose of breaking the record, Scallan had never counted his collection, the release stated. “This was a really exciting record attempt to be a part of, especially given how popular and nostalgic Monopoly is amongst families across the world,” said Dave Cox, marketing director for Safestore.

Scallan started collecting Monopoly boards 10 years ago while searching for a memorable vacation souvenir. “Neil’s collection is honestly like nothing you’ve ever seen before,” Cox added. “He has boards from all over the world, and some of them are incredibly rare. His commitment to building this collection is nothing short of amazing, and we’re really pleased that he won the record attempt. He certainly deserves it!”

Safestore Holdings PLC operates 131 self-storage facilities, including 95 facilities it owns in the U.K. and 24 in France. Its wholly owned properties comprise more than 5 million square feet of storage space, while its entire portfolio serves approximately 49,000 customers.
