Construction Progresses on U-Store Self Storage Project in Springfield, OR

Construction of a U-Store Self Storage facility in Springfield, Ore., is nearing completion. It’s the area’s first multi-story storage property, according to the source. The three-story building along Interstate 5 on International Court has been under construction since earlier this year.

Once complete, it will comprise 70,000 square feet of storage space in 960 units. It will also include an office and manager’s residence. A future expansion could add another 115,000 square feet of space. Situated on a 2.5-acre lot, the facility is 50 feet tall, and painted beige, black, orange, red and yellow, the source reported. The first 100 ground-floor units are slated to open after Jan. 1.

“This isn’t like your typical mini-storage, with a garage door and buildings in rows,” developer Joe Weston, owner of Weston Investment Co. LLC, told the source. “This will probably be the nicest one in the Eugene area.”

Weston is a Portland-based real estate magnate whose portfolio includes thousands of apartment units, more than 2 million square feet of commercial property, and part-ownership of a golf resort in Bend, Ore. He has developed 21 self-storage facilities comprising 14,000 storage units in Oregon and Washington under the U-Store name.
