Self-Storage Project Considered in Appomattox, VA

Real estate developer and entrepreneur George Aznavorian intends to build a self-storage facility at the back of an 85-acre property he owns in Appomattox, Va. Town officials held a public hearing this week to discuss the project, which would require a conditional-use permit. Aznavorian plans to install “pre-engineered units” along an existing security fence near Appomattox Primary School, according to the source. If approved, the development would begin in the fall, with an opening scheduled for next spring.

Though the number of self-storage units hasn’t yet been determined, their use would be for residential storage rather than commercial, the source reported. A “guard house” on the property would also be renovated as part of the project.

Aznavorian acquired the former Thomasville Furniture plant at 310 Founders Lane during a December 2015 public auction for $1 million. He told the source in February he would consider using the property to expand his self-storage business, All-Size Storage in Virginia, which he owns through an entity called NPI Development. He’s also owner of a company called Latitude 37 Appomattox LLC, according to the source.

There’s just one other self-storage facility within the town limits and four countywide, the source reported.

All-Size Storage has locations in Moneta, New London and Thaxton, Va.
