Storage World to Build New Self-Storage Facility in Wolverhampton, England

Storage World (Wolverhampton) Ltd. received city approval this week to convert the historic Attwood Building in Wolverhampton, England, to a mixed-use property that will include self-storage and ground-floor retail shops. The property is on the corner of Raglan Street and St. Mark’s Road in the Chapel Ash neighborhood. It had been vacant for more than a decade and on the market for a year before Storage World’s acquisition in January, according to the source.

“The company has identified a gap in the market in Wolverhampton, particularly close to the city center. The Attwood Building lends itself to conversion to storage and would provide Storage World with a site that meets [its] requirements,” according to the development plan submitted to the city.

The facility will be designed similarly to Hillcrest Self Storage in the Hillcrest Business Park in Dudley, England, which Storage World also owns and manages. The units will have a flexible design, with the ability to be connected to make larger spaces, the source reported. The site would be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the storage business will create three full-time and three part-time jobs.

Built in the 1940s, the Attwood Building operated as workshop for car dealer Charles Attwood and Son. It most recently functioned as a bath and tile center until the early 2000s.
