Cremated Remains of 50-Plus People Found at Store Here Self Storage in Jonesboro, GA

The cremated remains of more than 50 people were discovered yesterday inside a unit at Store Here Self Storage in Jonesboro, Ga. A friend of the tenant renting the unit found the remains and called the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), according to the source. The cremains date from 1967 to 2011.

The contents may have been stored by Pope Dickson, the former director of Pope Dickson and Son Funeral Home, according to Nelly Miles, a spokesperson for the GBI. The funeral home closed in 2012 after Dickson’s health began to decline. Dickson now resides in a nursing home.

The GBI isn’t pursuing a criminal investigation but has cataloged the cremains with the intent to contact the families of the deceased. “The next step is to identify the remains and contact next of kin in an attempt for them to collect the remains,” Miles told the source.

Families who suspect remains of family members may have been stored at the self-storage facility on Tara Boulevard can call the GBI medical examiner’s office at 401.244.2500.
