Off-Duty Officer Prevents Theft at Self-Storage Facility in La Porte, TX

An off-duty police officer prevented a vehicle theft from occurring last week at a self-storage facility in La Porte, Texas. The La Porte Police Department officer was driving home from work just after midnight on May 6 when he noticed two men in separate vehicles parked in lot in the 11300 block of Spencer Highway. The unusual nature of the location and time caused him to turn around and further inspect the scene, according to the source.

That’s when the officer noticed one of the vehicles had left the parking lot and drove through an unauthorized gate at the self-storage facility across the street. He then notified patrol units in the area.

An on-duty officer arrived and discovered the suspect’s vehicle hooked to a trailer carrying a mid-size tractor. At the same time, a third officer questioned the driver of the second vehicle, which was now parked near the airport along Spencer Highway.

David Regino, 31, and Maderrick Waldrup, 41, both from Houston, were arrested and charged with felony theft. They were booked into the Harris County Jail.
