General Storage Co. Pte. Ltd. (GSC), which operates self-storage facilities in Singapore under the Lock+Store brand, will begin offering onsite postal service at all five locations beginning on May 3. Customers will be able to send packages via Ordinary Mail, Registered Article and Speedpost through the Singapore Post Ltd. (SingPost) system. Lock+Store will be the first self-storage operator in Singapore to offer full postal services, according to a company press release.

Lock+Store has several e-commerce businesses as tenants that stand to benefit from the “store, pack and deliver” concept, the release stated. "Amid the current, tough economic climate, e-commerce storage is a key growth driver,” CEO Helen Ng said. “Our appointment as a postal agent enables us to provide order fulfilment support to e-commerce storers. They can save time, money and manpower by depositing their merchandise with our customer-service officers after purchasing the necessary postage."

Commercial tenants who store their inventory at the facility will be able to ship directly to customers through the self-storage postal service. “I love the flexibility of going to the facility whenever I wish. There is also an on-site bulk-parcel drop-off service. I can access the goods in my storage unit and mail them to my buyers straight away,” said Ervinna Neo, owner of e-commerce retailer Rainbow Lab.

Business tenants and their customers will be able to track package shipments using the SingPost website or mobile app, according to the release.

Some Lock+Store facilities previously sold postage and postal stationery and offered services such as package collection and delivery.

GSC is owned by SingPost, the national postal-service provider in Singapore. SingPost acquired the storage company in 2013. Lock+Store operates five Singapore self-storage facilities and one in Malaysia. GSC also operates 12 StoreFriendly self-storage locations in Singapore and four facilities branded as The Store House in Hong Kong.
