Secure Self Storage Opens New Facility in Norwalk, CT

Update 1/25/17 – Secure Self Storage has opened its facility on Connecticut Avenue. The four-story building comprises 770 units. The site was the former headquarters of Microphase, a developer of radar subsystems, and is also home to the Stonefield apartment building, which opened last year, according to the source.

In addition to catering to apartment dwellers, the facility was designed to attract local contractors working on nearby development projects. Optional power supply is available to larger units. “In this area, its people moving into new apartments,” Bill Green, senior district manager of operations for Secure, told the source. “You’ve got apartment complexes popping up everywhere and still breaking ground. Contractors are coming into the market because there is so much [work] out there to do these jobs, so they need storage.”

Secure intends to develop additional locations in Connecticut, including Stamford and possibly Bridgeport, the source reported. Company owner Stephen Hardy is a Norwalk resident.

4/7/16 – Secure Self Storage, which operates 14 facilities in the Northeast, is developing a new facility at 587 Connecticut Ave. in Norwalk, Conn. The location will be the company’s first in the state. A sign posted at the construction site indicates the facility will open soon, according to the source.

The facility will feature climate control, an onsite manager and security cameras. It’ll also offer the use of moving trucks and the sale of moving and packing supplies. Units will range from mini-lockers to large units offering 400 square feet of space, according to the Secure website.

The property is near the Connecticut Turnpike and the Darien, Conn., town line. It’s situated on a stretch of roadway that includes a Home Depot and Walmart, according to the source.

Secure operates three self-storage facilities in Delaware, one in Massachusetts, seven in New York and one in Washington, D.C. It also has two locations in Ontario, Canada.
