Oswego Self Storage of NY Collects Donations for Local Homeless Services

Oswego Self Storage in Oswego, N.Y., is partnering with civil-society program AmeriCorps to collect donations that will benefit homeless youth and families who are attempting to establish independent housing. The property at 121 George St. will offer drop boxes this week in which community members can donate items. Suggested donations include bowls and utensils, household items, napkins, and toiletries.

Ben Kaye, owner of Oswego Self Storage, recently met with Sandra L. Waldron, the AmeriCorps member who’s spearheading the drive. She’s also working with other community organizations, including Oswego County Opportunities Inc. (OCO), to establish additional drop-off locations.

OCO provided services to 1,392 homeless individuals in 2015. Its community-service programs include crisis intervention, education services and housing assistance.

Oswego Self Storage is a family-owned business. Expansion plans are underway to add a retail store with moving and packing supplies, according to the facility website.
