All Locked Up to Build New Boat/RV Self-Storage Facility in Castaic, CA

All Locked Up is developing a 2-acre boat and RV self-storage facility in Castaic, Calif. The property on Lake Hughes Road is near a freeway and Castaic Lake, a reservoir formed by Castaic Dam in the Sierra Pelona Mountains. Partners Gary Horton, CEO of Landscape Development Inc., and Larry Wood closed on the property last month.

The men had been searching for a location to build a boat- and RV-storage facility when they found the property, which was already properly zoned and paved, according to the source. The buyers approached the land owner, McDonald’s, last year about buying the parcel. The fast-food chain operates a restaurant adjacent to the property. “It took eight months to get to the point where they responded back. It took a whole year from the start to when we were able to strike a mutually agreeable deal,” Horton said, adding he believes McDonald’s may have originally intended to use the area as a parking lot for big-rig drivers, the source reported.

The land formerly housed the Castaic Landing Restaurant, a preferred diner for truckers until it closed in 1988, the source reported.

While Horton declined to say how much they paid for the property, he said, “McDonald’s practically gave it to them.”

“This spot is advantageous, and it’s already paved with concrete and has lights,” Horton added. Once complete, the facility will be able to store 130 to 140 boats and RVs, Horton said. “We’ll develop the property with landscaping, walls and signage. And we’ll install a code key, security camera and videotaping system.”

The parcel is in a retail area that has a number of vacant stores, including a closed Ralph’s grocery store. Horton said the new storage facility will help revive the area.  “We’re going to do a beautiful job landscaping this, making it very attractive and help improve the neighborhood,” he said. “I think it’s going to be a plus for the community. That sector of Castaic Road already gets high traffic, and it will help bring more people into the community and into those local businesses. It’s like a cure for a blighted area.”

All Locked Up also operates a boat- and RV-storage facility at 32204 Castaic Road in Castaic. Horton built the property 20 years ago and said it’s consistently full.

Founded in 1982, Landscape Development is a full-service landscaping firm that offers design-build for outdoor living environments, custom gardens, landscape maintenance and erosion control.
