William Warren Group/StorQuest Self Storage Participate in 4th Annual 'Rivals United for a Kure' Campaign

The William Warren Group (WWG), a privately held real estate company that operates the StorQuest Self Storage brand, is participating in the fourth annual “Rivals United for a Kure” campaign benefiting Kure It Cancer Research, a nonprofit dedicated to funding kidney and other cancer research. The initiative, which runs until Nov. 22, brings together the sports communities of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of Southern California (USC) to support underfunded cancer research at UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Separated by 20 miles, UCLA Jonsson and USC Norris are dedicated to studying the patterns, causes and controls of all cancers, according to the Rivals United website.

Hosted on Crowdriser.com, WWG’s fundraising effort has garnered just over $13,000 since it launched this week. The campaign is being led by WWG CEO and President Bill Hobin. On the pledge page, Hobin shared that his support of Kure It and the Rivals United team stems from having family members battle cancer, including his mother, who’s a breast-cancer survivor.

Since launching in 212, Rivals United has granted $1.1 million in funds to support research in head and neck cancers, circulating tumor cells, pediatric bone and soft-tissue sarcoma, and other cancers. It hopes to raise $1 million this year. The funds will be granted to researchers by April 2016, according to the website. Last year’s funds supported four projects focused on adolescent sarcoma, cancer of the gallbladder, neuroblastoma and chondrosarcoma.

The Rivals United campaign culminates in the “Fourth Annual Rivals United for a Kure Gala,” held on Nov. 22 at the City Club Los Angeles in downtown Los Angeles. The event will include a cocktail reception, gourmet dinner, wine, and a live and silent auction.

Kure It was launched in 2010 by Barry Hoeven, president of Westport Properties Inc., which operates 86 self-storage facilities under the US Storage Centers brand. Hoeven was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 1998. The organization has raised $3.8 million since its inception, according to its website.

Founded in 1994 and based in Santa Monica, Calif., WWG acquires, develops and operates more than 100 self-storage facilities in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, South Carolina and Texas.
