Southern Self Storage, which operates facilities in Georgia and Florida, is expanding its operating portfolio in both states. The company recently acquired a facility in Pensacola, Fla., which had been managed by self-storage real estate investment trust CubeSmart, and earlier this year purchased Perimeter Self Storage in Valdosta, Ga. The company also has three developments underway in Florida, with two slated to open next year, according to a press release.

The Pensacola facility at 9311 Pine Forest Road comprises 434 climate-controlled units. The property is just north of Interstate 10 and is 78 miles from its location in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., where the company acquired a facility last year. Southern is scheduled to open new facilities in Grayton Beach and Panama City, Fla., in 2016, as well as begin construction on a new development in Tradition, a master-planned, mixed-use community in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The Valdosta property is Southern’s first location in Georgia. The facility at 3200 Inner Perimeter Road comprises 47,000 square feet in all ground-floor units. The property is near North Valdosta Road, a busy arterial, and surrounded by growing residential neighborhoods, the release stated. The company will hold an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at the property on Oct. 27 in conjunction with the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce.

Owners Peter Cowie and Robert McIntosh started the Southern Self Storage brand in Florida in 1985. The business partners also operate three Northern Self-Storage facilities in the Ontario, Canada, market.
