Self-Storage Proposed to Replace Bowling Alley in Boynton Beach, FL

The Coalition of Boynton West Residential Associations (COBWRA), a volunteer civic group representing unincorporated residential communities in the Boynton Beach area of Palm Beach County, Fla., recently voted to support a proposed self-storage development on South Military Trail. The project would replace what is now a bowling alley on 7.24 acres just north of Hypoluxo Road, according to the source.

The unidentified applicant has asked county officials to “abandon” the special permit granted in 1993 that allowed the bowling alley, the source reported.

Suburban Boynton is comprised of several residential communities, and developers have frequently proposed commercial projects to increase local services, according to the source. “This is an area undergoing transition into some new uses,” said Steve Oseroff, chair of COBWRA’s growth-management committee.

COBWRA represents more than 125,000 residents and 108 homeowner and condominium associations, according to its website. The group’s support will be noted as a formal recommendation to the county commission.

The proposal will next be heard on Oct. 1 by the county zoning commission. The Palm Beach Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to discuss the project on Oct. 22.
