Tenant to Operate Internet-Based Used-Car Business From Mattapoisett Self Storage in MA

Eric Desrosiers, a tenant of Mattapoisett Self Storage in Mattapoisett, Mass., received a business license from town officials this week to operate an Internet-based used-car business to be called “Eric’s Pre-Owned Vehicles.” Once spaces are available, Desrosiers will be permitted to store up to three used vehicles at the 7 Industrial Drive storage property, the source reported. Because of concerns voiced by his landlord at the license hearing, Desrosiers will also conduct his sales transactions at the storage facility.

Vera Gibbons, the landlord for Desrosiers rental home on Captain’s Lane, expressed concerns about where Desrosiers’ sales transactions would occur. She asked the town board to prohibit Desrosiers from conducting transactions at his home or the other rental homes along the street, which is a private road.

“He could be driving down and meeting somebody to sign papers, and there’s eight houses there,” Gibbons said. “I want Mr. Desrosiers to stand on notice that if we see cars on Captain’s Lane that do not belong there, his living there could be jeopardized.” She also asked if car-sales transactions were permitted at the storage property.

“[Mattapoisett Self Storage] did not imply that a transaction could not occur there. You can sell a car just about anywhere,” said Jordan Collyer, selectmen chair.

Desrosiers also agreed to other stipulations, including advertising the cars online only, using a P.O. box as his company address, and conducting sales during the storage facility’s business hours, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Selectmen approved the business license application with the stipulations.
