Guardian Self Storage to Convert Former Bowling Alley in Beacon, NY

Guardian Self Storage, which operates locations in Dutchess, Orange and Ulster, N.Y., is converting the former Southern Dutchess Bowl (SDB) bowling alley in Beacon, N.Y., to a self-storage facility, its 14th in the Hudson Valley. The property at 629 Route 52 will feature 31,000 square feet of indoor, climate-controlled self-storage and is expected to open this fall, according to a company press release.

“I am so happy to be opening a property in Beacon. This industry has grown so much, and I am excited to bring such a great product there. I have roots in Beacon, and I am looking forward to reconnecting with the community,” said Judy Motter, general manager for Guardian.

SDB closed its doors on May 31 after several decades in operation. The current owner purchased the bowling alley in 1986. The center included a pro shop and hosted local music artists in the SDB Rock Lounge. The location is also home to the Beacon Music Factory, which offers classes in the performing arts. According to the SDB website, the music factory will continue to operate from its present location.

Founded in 1982, Guardian Self Storage properties are family-owned and managed by Herb Redl Properties, a Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-based management firm.
