Self-Storage Software Provider Yardi Receives SSAE 16 SOC 1 Type 2 Report Compliance

Yardi Systems Inc., a provider of property-management software for the self-storage industry, has received its SSAE (Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements) 16 SOC 1 Type 2 report compliance after an examination of its security and internal controls for the company’s Store Advantage and Store Enterprise applications.

Formerly known as SAS 70, the SOC 1 report is published by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) under the SSAE 16 standard. The compliance process involves undergoing an examination of policies, operating procedures and controls related to financial reporting of user entities by an independent auditor to objectively validate that the service organization meets its declared control objectives, according to a Yardi press release.

“We take our clients’ needs very seriously and go above and beyond basic requirements to guarantee the safety and security of our systems and their data,” said James Hafen, self-storage industry principal at Yardi. “Our largest customers include publicly traded [real estate investment trusts], and they rely on our SOC 1 compliance to ensure that the mission-critical management systems they employ to operate their businesses are absolutely sound.”

Store Advantage and Store Enterprise were brought under the Yardi umbrella after the company acquired Centershift Inc. last year. Both cloud-based software applications have received SOC 1 Type 2 compliance for eight consecutive years, company officials said.

“Our compliance efforts ultimately benefit all of our customers, not just the larger players,” Hafen added. “Compliance with this standard requires stringent internal policies related to software development and storing and accessing data and related hardware. Yardi is doing everything it can to ensure its data and systems are secure.”

Based in Santa Barbara, Calif., Yardi offers software solutions for small and large operators as well as management firms. Store Advantage and Store Enterprise are designed to integrate with websites, call centers, Web aggregators, mobile devices, centralized-mail services, corporate offices and other business systems. Yardi Genesis 2 is a cloud-based real estate management application that includes integrated workflows, dashboards, online portals and payment processing.
