Elite Self Storage in Australia Plagued by Hundreds of Pigeons

Elite Self Storage in Rothwell, Queensland, Australia, is being plagued by hundreds of wild pigeons. More than 300 birds are nesting in the area and the population continues to grow, according to facility manager Ann Daley.

“We are constantly cleaning up their feces; it’s a health matter if we leave it there,” said Daley, adding that the birds seemed to be attracted to food from nearby businesses. The storage facility has taken steps to alleviate the problem, but has been unsuccessful, Daley told the source.

The Moreton Bay Regional Council investigated the pest problem, but said there was nothing it could do. Wild pigeons aren’t a designated pest under the Queensland’s Public Health Act, the source reported.

“There are no laws prohibiting the feeding of wild pigeons,” a council spokesperson told the source. The council advised the storage business to seek assistance from a pest-control expert.

Founded in 1985, Elite Self Storage operates facilities in Brendale, Lawnton and Rothwell, Queensland, Australia.
