Self-Storage Operator U-Haul Buys Bay Tree Storage in Trappe, MD

U-Haul International Inc. has acquired the former Bay Tree Storage facility in Trappe, Md., and rebranded it as U-Haul Moving and Storage of Trappe. The property at 3789 Ocean Gateway, the company’s first in the area, is just off U.S. Route 50 and will be remotely operated by U-Haul Moving and Storage of East New Market, Md.

The 2-acre property features a two-storage self-storage building, built in 2002, a single-family residence, constructed in 1974, and five RV-parking spaces. The storage building encompasses 29,016 square feet of space. The residence will be leased to an outside party, according to a company press release. Additional offerings include truck and van rentals.

The acquisition of Bay Tree Storage was driven by U-Haul’s corporate sustainability initiatives, which support infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint, according to the release. U-Haul’s adaptive reuse of buildings eliminates the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps local cities diminish their unwanted inventory of unused buildings, U-Haul officials said.

Established in 1945, U-Haul International Inc. has more than 40 million square feet of storage space at more than 1,000 owned and managed facilities throughout North America.
