Self-Storage Operator Storage Post of Pelham, NY, Donates Space for Food Drive

Storage Post, a private company that operates self-storage facilities along the East Coast and in the South, recently donated the use of two storage units at its Pelham, N.Y., facility to County Harvest Inc., a nonprofit food-rescue organization. County Harvest is the recipient of this year's Feed Four More program, in which Whole Foods grocery stores raise funds to purchase food for local residents in need. Whole Foods stores in Westchester County, N.Y., participated in the program, which enables shoppers to donate money toward feeding families of four.

The money raised was used to purchase 720 cases of organic unsweetened applesauce and 1,470 cases of organic rustic vegetable soup. The storage units were used to sort the food donations and prepare them for distribution to soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters.

The goal of Storage Post's philanthropy program is to support local neighborhoods by enriching the community, promoting education and caring for the environment, according to a company press release.

"We are committed to partnering with organizations like County Harvest to help the communities we serve. If our neighborhoods are happy and healthy, it positively affects our employees, customers and business," said Amanda Wethington, manager of marketing programs. "Essential programs like the ones County Harvest and Whole Foods coordinate provide a strong backbone of fellowship and support, and we are proud to be a part of it."

County Harvest is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization serving Westchester County. Its mission is to connect food donors with agencies serving people in need. The organization’s 300-plus volunteers rescue good, unused food from supermarkets, wholesale clubs, caterers, country clubs, farms, bakeries and bagel shops and deliver it immediately to soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters.

Founded in 1998, Storage Post has more than 30 locations in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, New Jersey and New York.
