Green Self Storage in Worcester, England, Hosts Fire-Brigade Drill

Green Self Storage in Worcester, England, hosted a drill on Feb. 1 for the local fire brigade. The event on Hylton Road included more than 60 firefighters and eight fire engines. During the drill, participants simulated fire extinguishment and casualty rescue.

The exercise went extremely well, according to station commander Toby Kempton. "We set certain objectives to put out the fire and perform rescues,” he said. “It's a difficult job in this complex layout. They achieved all the goals set for them.”

The drill also covered several learning points, Kempton told the source. "The exercise demonstrates to the fire crews the difficulties in performing breathing-apparatus search and rescues in complex buildings such as this.”

Though participants actually faced pitch-black, smoke-filled conditions during the drill, they were spared the searing heat of a real fire. "If there was a fire situation in here, because of the nature of the building, it would heat up to 1,000 degrees in minutes. It would be like an [oven],” Kempton said.

A firefighter acquaintance approached Green Self Storage Owner Jeff Robbins about practicing brigade skills at the facility. "It's good for everybody to have the training exercise as safely and as close to reality,” Robbins said. The storage facility wasn’t damaged during the exercise, the source reported.

In addition to traditional self-storage, Green Self Storage offers business and archive storage, pack and post services, parcel-post services, and rental vans.
