Once complete, the property at 600 Granite Court will encompass 91,000 net rentable square feet of storage space. The first phase includes 483 units. The second phase, expected to be complete by December, will add another 404 units. The facility will also include more than 3,000 square feet of executive office space.

SmartStop Self Storage Opens First Phase of Conversion Project in Pickering, Ontario, Canada

SmartStop Self Storage Inc., a fully integrated and self-administered real estate investment trust (REIT), has opened the first phase of a conversion project in Pickering, Ontario, Canada. Once complete, the property at 600 Granite Court will encompass 91,000 net rentable square feet of storage space. The first phase includes 483 units. The second phase, expected to be complete by December, will add another 404 units. The facility will also include more than 3,000 square feet of executive office space.

The conversion is on 4 acres near Whites Road, with access points to Highway 401. The industrial building comprised 43,450 gross square feet before being converted to self-storage.

SmartStop's Canadian portfolio also includes facilities in Brampton and Mississauga, Ontario, and Toronto. The company operates more than 130 properties in 17 U.S. states. It also serves as the sponsor, adviser and property manager for Strategic Storage Trust II Inc. and Strategic Storage Growth Trust Inc.
