Finger Lakes Self Storage in Waterloo, NY, to Add 4 Buildings

Finger Lakes Self Storage in Waterloo, N.Y., which opened in June, plans to add four buildings to its property this year as part of its second development phase. The new structures will be built on an adjacent parcel of land the owner purchased at the same time as the storage site. The project is expected to begin toward the middle of the year.

The facility at 791 Waterloo Geneva Road is the former site of the Broken Barn Farm Market, which closed not long after it opened in 2012. The new owner converted the existing metal building to storage units and a management office, and built two new buildings. The property currently contains 125 storage units.

“This location was attractive to us for many reasons,” company president Dale Twardokus told the source. “Most important is that we see this community growing in the long term. This area is a gateway for two of the Finger Lakes, with close proximity to the [New York State] Thruway and other major highways. This is a unique amenity that very few areas have. I foresee this community asset to increase the job base, tourism and second residences.”

Twardokus previously owned another storage facility and decided to sell it. He regrets the decision, he told the source. “When this property became available, it allowed us to get back into the business that we enjoy,” he said.

Finger Lakes Self Storage offers indoor storage, climate control and outdoor parking for boats, RVs and other vehicles. Twardokus also added fencing, security systems and landscaping to the property, according to the source. The facility employs three people.
