Compass Self Storage/Amsdell Cos. Buys 8th Facility in Greater Detroit

Compass Self Storage LLC, a member of the Amsdell family of companies, has acquired a self-storage facility in Jackson, Mich., the companys eighth location in the greater Detroit area. The former A & W Storage property at 4885 W. Michigan Ave. encompasses more than 69,000 net rentable square feet. It offers drive-up access, climate-controlled units, online payment options, and a full line of moving and packing supplies.

The acquisition is the companys ninth this year. Earlier this month, Compass announced self-storage purchases in New Port Richey, Fla., and Lansing, Ill., marking the operators entry into the Chicago market. Company growth is projected to continue with the acquisition of self-storage properties in select markets, according to a press release.

We are excited to service additional customers in the greater Detroit area by expanding to Jackson, said Todd Amsdell, president. We are proud to be a growing part of the local business community in Detroit.

The purchase was made by separate affiliates of Amsdell Group LLC and Compass Self Storage. Headquartered in Cleveland, the Amsdell Cos. draws its roots from the family-owned construction company founded in 1928. The company, which owns and operates self-storage properties in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee, has since been active in several billions of dollars worth of real estate ventures with a primary focus in self-storage.
