Competitive Eater Kobayashi Sets Cupcake-Eating World Record at Uncle Bobs Self Storage

Update 7/19/13 Competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi broke the world record for the most cupcakes eaten in one minute on July 13 when he consumed 13 of the tasty treats at an Uncle Bobs Self Storage facility in Upper Saddle River, N.J. The previous record was 12. Kobayashi followed that feat by drinking a gallon of milk in about 20 seconds.

Renowned competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi will attempt to set the world record for the most cupcakes eaten in one minute on July 13 at an Uncle Bobs Self Storage facility in Upper Saddle River, N.J. Kobayashi holds four Guinness World Records and is perhaps best known for winning the annual Nathans Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, N.Y., six times in a row.

The free Man vs. Cupcake demonstration will start at 2:30 p.m. at the Uncle Bobs location at 211 Route 17 South. Kobayashi will attempt to break the record by eating cupcakes from Sugar Flake Bakery, a local favorite. Sugar Flake baked goods will also be available for guests to enjoy during the event.

This will be a one-of-a-kind event that I know everyone is looking forward to, said Everett Taylor, area manager for Uncle Bobs New Jersey facilities. Kobayashi is a legend, and we cant wait to share the experience with our customers and visitors.

In addition to his hot dog-eating prowess, Kobayashi has won competitions for eating bratwursts, pizza and chicken wings, among other foods.

Uncle Bobs is owned by Sovran Self Storage Inc., a real estate investment trust that owns and manages more than 450 storage facilities in 25 states. The company currently has 20 self-storage locations in New Jersey.
