Self-Storage Operator Gotham Mini Storage Launches Most Cramped Space Photo Contest

Gotham Mini Storage, a new self-storage facility in Manhattan, N.Y., has launched NYCs Most Cramped Space Contest on its Facebook page, inviting New Yorkers to post pictures of their most cramped living spaces. Selected winners will win up to a year of storage from Gotham and room makeover tips from celebrity judges Rebecca Cole and Leslie Modell.

Cole is an award-winning garden and interior designer whose company Cole GROWs is based in New York City. She hosts Surprise by Design on the Discovery Channel. Modell is managing director at Warburg Realty in New York and is regularly featured on HGTVs Selling New York.

Company officials said they launched the contest because they recognize the space constraints experienced by urban residents in their marketplace differ from those of customers in many suburban locations. One team member behind the project even keeps his old winter coats and files inside his oven, since he only eats out and does not use the appliance.

Located on the corner of 10th Avenue and 39th Street, Gotham Mini Storage serves the residents of Manhattans Hells Kitchen, Chelsea, Midtown and Upper West Side neighborhoods. The seven-story property comprises 240,000 square feet and more than 2,000 units. It features more than 100 security cameras; a heated, drive-in, indoor loading area; music on the storage floor and complimentary wireless Internet. All units are customizable with shelves, lights and clothing racks. Customers also have the option of choosing units with 11-foot ceiling height.

Facility co-owners Jack Guttman and Steve Schwartz, both Manhattan-based real estate developers, opened the facility late last year.

Guttman has specialized in self-storage for 15 years and has handled the sale of more than 30 self-storage properties to real estate investment trusts. As a partner of American Storage and Storage Deluxe, he owns more than 1 million square feet of storage in the tri-state area. He is also part owner of Cirkers Fine Art Storage & Logistics in Manhattan.

Schwartz co-founded TVG Partners, a firm that specializes in the development, acquisition and management of self-storage facilities. TVG operates 1.5 million square feet of storage. Prior to entering real estate, Schwartz worked as an investment banker for Solomon Brothers.
