The professional cycling team sponsored by SmartStop Self Storage, the retail brand for Strategic Storage Trust Inc., has named its roster for the 2013 season. Among the riders on this year’s SmartStop-Mountain Khakis Professional Cycling Team is Canadian national criterium champion Ben Chaddock.
Chaddock is a former downhill ski racer who had his Olympic dream curtailed due to childhood asthma. He established the B.I.K.E.S foundation as a way to promote physical fitness, positive goal-setting and overcoming asthma. He works regularly with schoolchildren, offering them exposure to sports and exercise as a way to promote living a healthy lifestyle.
“We are looking forward to a great season, and are extremely proud of all our past and future riders,” said H. Michael Schwartz, chairman and CEO of SmartStop Self Storage. “We are honored Ben joined the 2013 team, as he is going to contribute to our success both on the road and in the community.”
The cycling team also signed Italian bicycle maker Wilier Triestina as a new sponsor.
“We are excited to work with the SmartStop-Mountain Khakis team, as they are a consistently top-level U.S. program,” said Angelo Cilli, president of Wilier USA. "There was no way we could pass up the chance to work with riders like two-time Olympian Bobby Lea, Jackie Simes, the inimitable Adam Myerson and Chaddock.”
Additional 2013 riders include Thomas Brown, Jon Hamblen, Isaac Howe, Shane Kline, Travis Livermon, Chris Monteleone, Clay Murfet, Daniel Patten, Frank Travieso, Chris Uberti and Curtis Winsor.
Last year’s team finished second in the nation for the season-long National Challenge Competition competition, behind only international powerhouse United Health Care.
