Self-storage real estate investment trust Extra Space Storage has created an infographic that illustrates the affect of the company’s solar sustainability efforts on the environment. The infographic includes the environmental impact these efforts will have in 2011, the projected impact continuing efforts will have in the future, and the associated tax credits and reduced energy costs. It can be viewed at www.extraspace.com/infographics/solarpower.
This summer Extra Space joined as a partner of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program, with a goal of improving energy efficiency and fighting climate change through a strategic, corporate energy-management program. The company is also installing solar panels on 21 of its New Jersey facilities as part of a nationwide agreement with 1st Light Energy, a company that specializes in commercial and residential solar-energy systems.
- Other sustainability campaigns launched by Extra Space include:
- Retrofitting facilities with energy-efficient lighting systems and motion sensors
- Moving paper-intensive processes to electronic documentation
- Regulating thermostat controls and temperatures for offices and properties
- Educating and encouraging employees and customers to do their part
"Every person, business, and organization must do their part to preserve the surrounding environment. Extra Space Storage is committed to environmental stewardship and improving the energy efficiency of each of its properties," said Karl Haas, chief operating officer.
