Health Officials Preparing for Fall Swine Flu Immunizations

Millions of people around the world may be lining up for swine flu shots this fall in addition to seasonal flu shots.

Health officials are hammering out details on a swine flu immunization campaign that could involve 600 million doses of the vaccine. How to administer the vaccine and track side effects has yet to be determined.

Roughly 115 million doses of seasonal flu vaccines are distributed each year. The seasonal flu causes about 200,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths each year.

The swine flu virus has been linked to a reported 27,000 illnesses and 127 deaths in America, and many more worldwide.
